At 10 a.m. on September 1, Matsuya started “MATSUYA DELI,” a takeout series of dishes to take home as side dishes for a meal or snacks to go with drinks. The 13 items are the familiar components of Matsuya’s beef bowls and set meals, sold on their own at prices from 370 yen to 690 yen. They are on sale at Matsuya stores nationwide, except some stores. From the same day through 10 a.m. on September 15, a limited-time bulk-buy discount, the “Trial Fair,” is also running.

13 Items from Beef Plate to Hamburg Steak, from 370 Yen

According to Matsuya’s official website, the lineup consists of 6 items based on the beef plate, 2 hamburg steaks, 4 yakiniku and ginger-pork items, and 1 curry, for 13 in total. The cheapest, “Beef Plate DELI,” is 370 yen, and the most expensive, “Yakiniku Beef DELI” and “Yakiniku Boneless Short Rib DELI,” are 690 yen.

Most of the DELI items carry over the prices of familiar existing menu items as they are. The table below lists each DELI’s price alongside the existing Matsuya menu item at the same price.

Pricing Extends the “Only” Price Across the Menu

Here, “Only” means the main dish by itself, without the rice, miso soup and pickled vegetables of a set meal. As the table shows, 8 items match the “Only” price of the corresponding existing menu item to the yen: Beef Plate DELI, Founding Beef Curry & Rice DELI, the 2 hamburg steaks, 3 yakiniku items and Stir-fried Pork with Ginger Soy Sauce DELI. The 4 other beef-plate-based items also land exactly on the price of the 370-yen beef plate plus a conventional side item: Green Onion and Soft-boiled Egg (200 yen), Grated Radish (100 yen), Kimchi Produced at Matsuya Fuji Factory (100 yen) or Extra Cheese (200 yen).

In other words, rather than a lineup of newly priced products, the DELI series takes the components that starred in set meals and bowls and carves them out for takeout at their “Only” prices. Matsuya’s side menu already had a stand-alone Beef Plate (370 yen), but yakiniku, hamburg steak, Founding Beef Curry & Rice and the like had mostly come as set meals or curry plates, so lining up the components on their own, each with its own name, is new.

“Trial Fair” Bulk-Buy Discount of Up to 450 Yen Off

To mark the launch, a limited-time “Trial Fair” runs from 10 a.m. on September 1 through 10 a.m. on September 15. During the fair, buying several DELI items together takes 300 yen off the regular price for a 2-piece set and 450 yen off for a 3-piece set.

Among the combinations Matsuya gives as examples, a 3-piece set of “Beef Plate DELI + Founding Beef Curry & Rice DELI + Umatoma Hamburg Steak DELI” goes from the regular 1,560 yen to 1,110 yen, and a 3-piece set of “Umatoma Hamburg Steak DELI + Hamburg Steak with Brown Sauce DELI + Beef Plate DELI” goes from the regular 1,630 yen to 1,180 yen. Even for 2-piece sets, such as “Beef Plate DELI + any Beef Plate DELI” going from the regular 840 yen to 540 yen, the same flat discount applies.

After 10 a.m. on September 15, the discount continues but shrinks to 200 yen off for a 2-piece set and 300 yen off for a 3-piece set.

App Orders Keep the Bigger Discount with “MATSUYA DELI à la Carte”

Orders through the official Matsuya app keep a bigger discount regardless of the period. In any combination you like, tiered discounts of 300 yen off for a 2-piece set, 450 yen off for a 3-piece set, 600 yen off for a 4-piece set and 750 yen off for a 5-piece set continue after 10 a.m. on September 15. The promotional image in the app boldly says “Save up to 750 yen!”, which corresponds to the 750 yen off for a 5-piece set.

When ordering in the app, choose “MATSUYA DELI à la Carte.” Note, however, that the 4 yakiniku and ginger-pork items, Yakiniku Beef DELI, Yakiniku Boneless Short Rib DELI, Yakiniku Pork Loin DELI and Stir-fried Pork with Ginger Soy Sauce DELI, are excluded from this à la Carte. Matsuya Mobile Order and Matsuben Net serve as the pickup channels.

The “MATSUYA DELI” Name Appeared First in July

This is not the first time the name “MATSUYA DELI” has appeared on Matsuya’s menu. In July, the takeout-only “MATSUYA DELI Hamburg Steak & Boneless Short Rib Plate” (800 yen) went on sale as a store-limited item at 30 stores in 7 prefectures, including Tokyo and Osaka. It packed hamburg steak, yakiniku boneless short rib, kimchi and potato salad together, with a choice of “Umatoma” or “Brown” sauce. Its composition, price and sales scope all differ from the nationwide 13-item lineup this time, but takeout items bearing the DELI name have been showing up in Matsuya stores since summer.
