Matsuya Partners with Mecha Comic to Give Away Up to 440 Yen in au PAY Balance
Matsuya Foods has announced an au PAY balance giveaway campaign in partnership with the e-book service Mecha Comic, running from September 1 to 30, 2026. Customers who pay with au PAY at both Matsuya Foods and Mecha Comic during the campaign period and meet the conditions will receive up to 440 yen worth of au PAY balance. The notice was posted on the official Matsuya website on August 31.
Both Conditions Must Be Met to Receive the Reward
Only customers who meet both of the following two conditions are eligible for the reward. Meeting just one of them does not qualify.
- Condition ①: Pay with au PAY (QR Code Payment / Online Payment) at Matsuya Foods
- Condition ②: Pay with au PAY (au Kantan Kessai, au’s carrier billing service) at Mecha Comic
On the Matsuya side, in addition to in-store QR Code Payment, Online Payment through Matsuben Net, Matsuya Mobile Order, Matsuben Delivery, and the Matsuya Mini App is also eligible. On the Mecha Comic side, payments for Monthly Subscription Plans are also eligible, but payments made via Carrier Billing (au Kantan Kessai) through App Store or Google Play in-app billing are excluded.
The announcement image lines up the three logos of Matsuya Foods, Mecha Comic, and au PAY at the top, with a Beef Bowl from Matsuya shown for Condition ① and a smartphone displaying a manga for Condition ②, connected by a “+” to visually link these two very different kinds of spending — dining and e-books.
The Reward Amount Changes at the 550 Yen and 1,100 Yen Lines
The reward amount is split into two tiers depending on the amount spent at each service, and only one tier applies.
| Amount Spent at Each Service (tax included) | au PAY Balance Received |
|---|---|
| 550 yen or more at each | 165 yen worth (Tax-Exempt) |
| 1,100 yen or more at each | 440 yen worth (Tax-Exempt) |
Raising the spending line from 550 yen to 1,100 yen doubles the required spending, while the reward increases roughly 2.7-fold, from 165 yen worth to 440 yen worth. If you expect to spend 1,100 yen or more at both Matsuya and Mecha Comic, aiming for the higher line yields a bigger payout. The au PAY balance will be credited as “au PAY (Matsuya x Mecha Comic CP)” by around the end of November 2026.
Eligible Across All of the Matsuya Foods Group’s Business Formats
On the Matsuya side, stores eligible for au PAY QR Code Payment span the various business formats operated by Matsuya Foods, including not just Matsuya but also Matsunoya, My Curry Shokudo, Sushimatsu, Shoken Chinese Dining, Matsutaro, Steak-ya Matsu, Matsugyu, Café terrasse verte, Mugi no Toriko, Tukkun², and Sushi Kappo Fukumatsu. However, Sushimatsu Ekia Premier Wakoshi Station Store is excluded from QR Code Payment. For Online Payment, locations such as the Narita Airport Terminal 3 Store and stores in expressway parking areas are excluded.
A Different Kind of Campaign from Matsuya’s Past au PAY Promotions
Matsuya has run au PAY-related campaigns multiple times before, but most of them were Matsuya-only promotions that rewarded Ponta Points in exchange for au PAY payments made through the official Matsuya Foods app and similar channels. Most recently, a campaign offering up to 15% back in Ponta Points for au PAY payments ran in August and ended on August 23.
This time, the campaign requires not just spending at Matsuya but also payment through an external manga app, and the reward comes as au PAY balance — a cash-equivalent form — rather than the familiar Ponta Points, making it structurally different from Matsuya’s past in-app reward promotions. As for tie-ups that build in the use of services other than Matsuya, there was a campaign in February 2026 that awarded Matsuya Points in exchange for conditions such as opening an Olive Account, but in that case Matsuya was the one granting the points. This time the balance is credited from the au PAY side, reversing the direction of the reward.
Editor's Note
A Beef Bowl at Matsuya, one more chapter of a manga you can't put down on Mecha Comic. Who knew these two completely different kinds of "just one more" — one more bowl, one more chapter — would end up connected through au PAY balance.
