On October 13, Matsuya overhauled the size lineup for its “Umatoma Hamburg Steak Set Meal” and “Hamburg Steak with Brown Sauce Set Meal.” Until now, the Double (two hamburg steaks) was the standard, and customers chose to scale down to a Single (one patty) or up to a Triple (three patties). As of this change, the Single is the standard, and customers choose the Double when they want more.

The standard price went from 1,180 yen to 890 yen for Umatoma and from 1,180 yen to 830 yen for the Brown Sauce version. That looks like a price cut, but it is because the standard now comes with one patty instead of two. Compared like for like, Double to Double, Umatoma rose from 1,180 yen to 1,380 yen (+200 yen) and Brown Sauce rose from 1,180 yen to 1,320 yen (+140 yen). The Triple (1,580 yen for each) is no longer listed on the official menu page.

Comparing the same number of patties, calories have gone up at every size. For the Only option, Umatoma gained 105 kcal and Brown Sauce gained 114 kcal. The menu photos were also reshot on the same day, and both have been replaced with a one-patty presentation.

Egg and Cheese Versions Delisted

On the same day, three variations with toppings were removed from the menu: the “Hamburg Steak with Brown Sauce and Sunny-side Up Set Meal,” the “Hamburg Steak with Brown Sauce and Cheese Set Meal,” and the “Cheese Umatoma Hamburg Steak Set Meal.” All were built on the old system with the Double as standard. The egg Brown Sauce version cost 1,280 yen, and the two cheese versions cost 1,380 yen.

Figures Also Moved for Curry Dishes with Hamburg Steak

The displayed figures for two curry dishes topped with hamburg steak also changed on the same day.
