Matsuya Updates Overnight Closure Schedules for October at 74 Stores Across Tokai, Kinki, and Hokuriku
This article has a newer version
On October 1, Matsuya switched its temporary overnight closure schedules from September dates to October dates at a total of 74 stores spanning 11 prefectures across the Tokai, Kinki, and Hokuriku regions, centered on Aichi and Osaka prefectures. The closure dates listed alongside each store’s operating hours were updated in bulk from September dates to October dates.
All 74 stores covered are either open 24 hours or operate long hours from early morning until late at night, and their operating-hours listings note brief overnight closures believed to be for cleaning or inspections. The stores themselves do not close entirely; the “Temporarily Closed” notation refers only to a set window of time overnight when operations pause.
Closure Dates Shifted from September to October
At most stores, only the closure dates themselves were shifted forward to the following month. Matsuya Kire-Uriwari Store (0110) changed from “September 14, 20, and 27, 2:00–5:00 a.m.” before the update to “October 4 and 11, 2:00–5:00 a.m.,” while Matsuya Imaike Store (0247) changed from “September 19, 20, 26, and 29, 2:00–4:00 a.m.” to “October 5, 10, and 12, 2:00–4:00 a.m.,” each replaced with its October closure dates.
Meanwhile, some stores gained a closure window for the first time, while others lost one. Matsuya Hanshin Amagasaki Store (0095) had previously been listed simply as “24-hour operation,” but a new closure of “October 8, 2:00–4:00 a.m.” has been added. Matsuya Minoh Store (0968) likewise gained “October 13, 3:00–8:00 a.m.” Conversely, Matsuya Echizen Sempuku Store (1958) had its September closure window of “September 16–30, 2:00–5:00 a.m.” removed, returning to “24-hour operation” with no closures in October. The store’s base operating hours have remained 24 hours since August, and what was removed this time was only the overnight closure window that had been set for September.
One store even had a closure window set for nearly every day of October. Matsuya Rokujizo Store (0881) changed from “September 16–28 and 30, 2:00–4:00 a.m.” before the update to “October 1–31, 2:00–4:00 a.m.” after it, with an overnight closure of 2:00–4:00 a.m. now drawn across nearly every day of the month.
| Store | September (Before) | October (After) |
|---|---|---|
| Hanshin Amagasaki Store | No closure | Oct 8, 2:00–4:00 a.m. |
| Kire-Uriwari Store | Sep 14, 20, 27, 2:00–5:00 a.m. | Oct 4, 11, 2:00–5:00 a.m. |
| Imaike Store | Sep 19, 20, 26, 29, 2:00–4:00 a.m. | Oct 5, 10, 12, 2:00–4:00 a.m. |
| Rokujizo Store | Sep 16–28, 30, 2:00–4:00 a.m. | Oct 1–31, 2:00–4:00 a.m. |
| Echizen Sempuku Store | Sep 16–30, 2:00–5:00 a.m. | No closure (24-hour operation) |
Updates Concentrated in 11 Prefectures Across Chubu, Kinki, and Hokuriku
This round’s 74 stores are limited to 11 prefectures across the Chubu, Kinki, and Hokuriku regions. The breakdown by prefecture is shown in the table below, and not a single store is included from other areas, including Tokyo, which has 337 stores, or Kanagawa, Saitama, Chiba, Fukuoka, and Hokkaido. The notable feature of this update is how concentrated it is in this region.
| Prefecture | Stores Affected |
|---|---|
| Aichi Prefecture | 24 |
| Osaka Prefecture | 22 |
| Hyogo Prefecture | 7 |
| Gifu Prefecture | 5 |
| Wakayama Prefecture | 4 |
| Mie Prefecture | 3 |
| Shiga Prefecture | 3 |
| Kyoto Prefecture | 3 |
| Fukui Prefecture | 1 |
| Nara Prefecture | 1 |
| Ishikawa Prefecture | 1 |
Looking at the share of each prefecture’s total stores affected, prefectures with fewer stores show a higher proportion than those with more. Wakayama Prefecture has 4 of 6 stores affected (66.7%), Gifu Prefecture has 5 of 8 (62.5%), and Aichi Prefecture has 24 of 54 (44.4%), while Osaka Prefecture, which has the most stores (111), has 22 affected but only reaches 19.8% in proportion. Overnight closure settings are applied at a higher rate in prefectures with fewer stores than in urban prefectures with many stores.
In terms of co-located brands, 30 stores are co-located with Matsunoya and 5 with My Curry Shokudo (MY Curry), while the remaining 39 are standalone Matsuya stores.
Updates Have Run Twice a Month for the Past Two Months
Bulk updates to overnight closure schedules in the Tokai, Kinki, and Hokuriku regions have continued at a pace of roughly twice a month for about the past two months. Most recently, on September 13, 66 stores across Tokai, Kinki, and Hokuriku were updated for the latter half of September, and on August 31, 60 stores across Tokai and Kinki were updated for the first half of September, with a further revision on September 18 covering an additional 10 stores in Aichi Prefecture. This latest update follows those with a switch to October schedules. While the specific stores involved change from round to round, the geographic scope of Chubu, Kinki, and Hokuriku has remained consistent.
Anyone planning to visit Matsuya late at night may want to check the closure dates in the operating-hours listing for the store they intend to visit.
Editor's Note
If you're planning a late-night stop, it's worth checking your target store's closure dates beforehand so you don't make the trip for nothing.
