Matsuya Updates Late-Night Closure Schedules at 60 Tokai and Kinki Stores to Early September

On Matsuya’s official website, the business hours listings for 60 stores centered on the Tokai and Kinki regions were updated all at once on their store pages, with the schedule for late-night operating closures shifting from August dates to early September dates. All 60 stores saw changes only to the business hours listing; no other fields — store name, address, phone number, map location — were changed.

Late-Night Closure Notices Appear Only in Parts of Tokai and Kinki — None in Kanto

The 60 stores updated this time are concentrated in nine prefectures: Aichi (24), Osaka (16), Gifu (6), Hyogo (6), Wakayama (3), Kyoto (2), Shiga (1), Nara (1), and Mie (1). Kanto, which has the most stores nationwide, isn’t included at all — the region spans seven prefectures with a combined 679 stores, including Tokyo (338), Kanagawa (112), Saitama (103), and Chiba (77).

To begin with, stores whose business hours listing includes a late-night operating closure schedule remain limited to 41 stores across eight prefectures — Aichi, Osaka, Gifu, Hyogo, Kyoto, Wakayama, Mie, and Nara — with none at all in other prefectures, including Kanto, Kyushu, and Hokkaido. This update to 60 stores touches nearly all of them. The official website gives no stated reason for the closures; they appear to be late-night-only closures for cleaning or equipment inspection, but this can’t be confirmed. Of the 60 stores, only one — Matsuya Ibuki PA (Up-bound) Store (2042) — sits inside a highway parking area; the remaining 59 are roadside stores in urban or suburban areas.

14 Stores Newly Gained a Schedule, 19 Lost One, 27 Had Their Dates Shift

The changes across the 60 stores aren’t uniform — they fall into three patterns.

Stores that newly gained a late-night closure schedule (14 stores). Matsuya Mikawa-Anjo Store (0340) changed from a listing that simply read “24-hour operation” to “24-hour operation *Temporarily closed 9/7, 9/14: 22:00 to 9:00 the next day, 9/10: 22:00 to 6:00 the next day, last order 30 minutes before closing,” marking the first time a late-night closure date appeared for September. Okazaki-Kita Store (0425), Daito Gokuden Store (1773), and Matsusaka Daikokuda Store (1978) likewise had September closure dates added to business hours listings that previously had none.

Stores whose late-night closure schedule disappeared (19 stores). Matsuya Kasugai Store (0268) reverted from “24-hour operation *Temporarily closed 8/16, 8/23, 8/30: 2:00 to 4:00, last order 30 minutes before closing” to simply “24-hour operation,” dropping the late-night closure notice and unifying the listing into regular round-the-clock operation. Kariya Hidaka Store (0519) and Ibuki PA (Up-bound) Store, the only store located in a parking area, also had their August closure dates removed from the listing.

Stores where only the closure dates shifted (27 stores). Matsuya Kishiwada Store (0096) had both its target dates and time windows rewritten together, from “*Temporarily closed 8/26, 8/29: 22:00 to 9:00 the next day” to “*Temporarily closed 9/11, 9/12: 22:00 to 5:00 the next day, 9/13, 9/14: 2:00 to 5:00, 9/15: 2:00 to 8:00.” Kire-Uriwari Store (0110) similarly switched from six dates in August to three dates in early September: “9/6, 9/13, 9/14: 2:00 to 5:00.”

A Bulk Switchover Repeated Every Few Weeks

This kind of bulk update spanning dozens of stores isn’t a first. There have been multiple similar bulk switchovers among the same clusters of stores in the past. On May 1, 92 stores in the Chubu and Kansai regions switched from April to May dates; on July 17, 73 stores across Tokai, Kinki, and Hokuriku switched to late-July dates; and on July 31, 55 stores switched to August dates — the late-night closure schedule has been updated in sequence each time. A similar update covering 60 stores also took place on August 15, and many of this round’s 60 stores — including Gifu Akanebe Store (0267), Ogaki Store (0621), Tarui Store (2135), Kitagatacho Store (1796), and Kakamigahara Store (2166) — are once again among those covered. The pattern that emerges is one of closure dates continually rolling forward from “late August” to “early September” in step with the passage of time.

Stores Whose Operating Format Changed Before Are Covered Again

This round of 60 stores also includes stores whose business hours changes have been reported individually before. Matsuya Rokujizo Store (0881) switched its business hours from “8:00 to 1:00 the next day” to 24-hour operation just on July 16, and this time its late-night closure schedule was updated once again. Matsuya Tonda Store (0911) and Shijo Karasuma Store (1925) are two stores that likewise expanded their business hours to 22 hours — “4:00 to 2:00 the next day” — on July 16, and both are covered in this update as well. Matsuya Komaki Store (0473) is a store whose business hours listing has changed repeatedly over the past month, and this time its closure schedule was narrowed down to a single date: September 1, “5:00 to 9:00” only.
