Matsuya's 200-Yen 'Mini Beef Plate' Delisted from the Side Menu

MenuDiscontinued

Matsuya’s side menu item “Mini Beef Plate” (200 yen) was delisted from the official Matsuya website’s menu on October 27. It was an easy, affordable dish that let customers enjoy beef for just 200 yen a plate, and its discontinuation as a standalone side menu item comes amid a series of moves involving menu items bearing the “Beef Plate” name.

The Cheapest Beef Plate on the Side Menu

Mini Beef Plate was priced at 200 yen, putting it in the same 200-yen price bracket as side menu items such as “Rice,” “Green Onion and Soft-boiled Egg,” and “Extra Cheese.”

Beef Bowl itself, the staple main dish, costs 450 yen for a Small Serving and 480 yen for a Regular Serving — Mini Beef Plate came in well below that. Even as a standalone side menu item, it occupied a position where customers could enjoy beef itself at a more affordable price than the Beef Bowl.

Matsuya has numerous menu items with “Beef Plate” in the name, but all of them are priced higher than this. At 200 yen, it was priced as the cheapest entry point among the simmered beef & onion items.

Delisted Amid Continued Expansion of ‘Beef Plate’ Items

Mini Beef Plate’s delisting coincided with a period in which Matsuya has been rolling out “Beef Plate”-related menu items one after another. In mid-October, the lineup of Beef Plate set meals expanded with items such as the 790-yen “Hearty Serving Beef Plate Meal,” and on October 26 the one-day-only, 1,190-yen “Heaping Beef Plate Set Meal” was also announced to mark Meat Day.

While these “Beef Plate”-related moves continue, the takeout and prepared-foods brand “MATSUYA DELI” still lists all of its Beef Plate items on the official website: the 370-yen Beef Plate, the 470-yen Kimchi Beef Plate, the 470-yen Beef Plate w/ Grated Radish & Ponzu Citrus Soy Sauce, the 570-yen Cheese Beef Plate, the 570-yen Green Onion and Soft-boiled Egg Beef Plate, and the 600-yen Tomato and Cheese Beef Plate. What was delisted was only the 200-yen “Mini Beef Plate,” a separate item line that had been listed as a standalone side menu item.

The Name ‘Mini Beef Plate’ Lives On

The name “Mini Beef Plate” itself has not disappeared from the menu. The “Mini Beef plate and Raw Egg” and “Mini Beef plate and Soft-boiled Egg” sets (both 270 yen), which use Mini Beef Plate, remain listed on the official website even after the standalone item was delisted.

In addition, the breakfast menu item “Mini Beef Plate ” also continues to be listed. What was discontinued this time is strictly the standalone “Mini Beef Plate” (200 yen) in the side menu category, which is distinct from the identically named egg sets and the breakfast side-dish version.

Just One Week After the Calorie Count Revision

Mini Beef Plate had seen a change shortly before its delisting as well. Its listed energy value had just been revised from 160 kcal to 152 kcal on October 20, and the delisting came roughly a week later.

Editor's Note

In this season full of Beef Plate everything, the most affordable 200-yen Beef Plate quietly exits the stage. It was a great supporting player for adding a bit of beef when you're a little hungry.
