At 10 a.m. on October 15, Matsuya Foods will open the “Yatsushiro Store,” a combo store that brings together Matsuya (beef bowls) and Matsunoya (tonkatsu), at 3-34 Kitanomarucho, Yatsushiro City, Kumamoto Prefecture. Located close to the Yatsushiro Castle ruins, a nationally designated historic site, the store is open 24 hours a day, every day of the year, and has a spacious parking lot and a drive-through. An opening commemorative sale will also run through October 27. This is the first Matsuya-group store in Yatsushiro City, and the opening, previewed in an official announcement dated September 25, is now becoming reality.

Opening Commemorative Sale: Beef Bowl Fresh Vegetable Salad Set for 500 Yen

The opening commemorative sale runs from 10 a.m. on October 15 to 10 a.m. on October 27. The eligible items and prices are as follows.

The 500-yen Beef Bowl Fresh Vegetable Salad Set pairs the signature Beef Bowl (Regular Serving) with a fresh vegetable salad. A Matsuya Beef Bowl (Regular Serving) currently costs 480 yen and the fresh vegetable salad is 150 yen on its own, so the two would normally come to 630 yen; the sale price is about 130 yen lower. The Beef Bowl (Regular Serving) was just revised on October 13 from 460 yen to 480 yen, so this sale comes right on the heels of that change.

Matsunoya’s Loin Katsu Set Meal, a signature item made with aged chilled pork and a special breadcrumb coating, goes for 590 yen, while the Miso Loin Katsu Set Meal and the Loin Katsu Set Meal with Grated Radish & Ponzu Citrus Soy Sauce are both 690 yen. The same 500-yen price for the Beef Bowl Fresh Vegetable Salad Set was also used in the opening commemorative sale of the Kagoshima Tenmonkan Store, which opened on September 18.

24-Hour Operation and a Drive-Through, in a Prime Spot Near the Yatsushiro Castle Ruins

The new store stands in Kitanomarucho, close to the Yatsushiro Castle ruins, a nationally designated historic site. The official announcement describes it as a “prime location with excellent access from nearby public facilities and major roads.” Yatsushiro is the second-largest city in Kumamoto Prefecture. The store has a spacious parking lot, operates 24 hours a day every day of the year, and offers takeout (excluding some items). In addition, a Morning Meal is available from 5 a.m. to 11 a.m.

The interior features box seats and counter seats with a wood-grain design. Ordering is done at multiple self-checkout registers, and the store promotes an open dining space where even families can relax comfortably.

A Menu from Set Meal of Grilled Beef to Morning Meal and Kids’ Items

The Set Meal of Grilled Beef is a long-seller that has been on Matsuya tables since the early days of the company. It is introduced as an item that has been renewed many times to keep pace with changing times and needs.

The Authentic Fried Chicken Set Meal is a hearty set meal in which the chicken is steeped in a special rubbed marinade made with ginger and garlic, then fried until crisp. Fried chicken is also sold in 3-piece prepared-food packs, which can serve as an extra dish for the table.

In the Morning Meal served from 5 a.m. to 11 a.m., the Sausage and Egg Set Meal is named the No. 1 most popular item. It combines sausage and a sunny-side up egg with a fresh vegetable salad, a side dish, and nori.

For children, the Kids’ Waku Waku Set with Beef Bowl is also on the menu. It is a tray-style set that fills out a Beef Bowl with jelly, sausage, a drink, and more.

For takeout, the web reservation service “Matsuben Net” is also available. Pickup times can be set as early as 15 minutes ahead, and the service promotes the ability to buy a bento without waiting.

Fifth Store in Kumamoto Prefecture, Second New Combo Store This Year

With the opening of the Yatsushiro Store, it becomes the fifth Matsuya-group store in Kumamoto Prefecture, following the Kumamoto Shinshigai Store, Kumamoto Nagamine-Minami Store, and Kumamoto Sakuragi Store (all in Kumamoto City) and the Kumamoto Hikarinomori Store (Kikuyo Town). This is the first store in Yatsushiro City, and the second city in the prefecture after Kumamoto City.

New openings announced as “Matsuya/Matsunoya combo stores” have grown year by year, with 14 in 2024 and 20 in 2025, but in 2026 there have been only 2 as of October 14, including this one (the other was an opening in Shimane Prefecture in March). Compared with the past two years, announcements of new combo stores are fewer this year.
