At 4:07 PM on September 1, the Matsuya App sent a notification titled “[Beef Bibim Bowl] Renewed❗️.” The body read, “The sauce has changed — a new dimension of flavor❗️ We toned down the saltiness for a milder finish.” The renewal of the Beef Bibim Bowl sauce had already begun that same day at 10:00 AM, making this notification a same-day announcement of a renewal already underway. The same renewal had been previewed in advance, first in an official website announcement dated August 27 and then in an official X post on August 28.

The Notification Text Draws on Two Sentences from the Announcement

The single sentence in the notification body draws on two separate passages found apart from each other in the August 27 announcement. The first half, “The sauce has changed — a new dimension of flavor,” corresponds to the opening of the announcement’s tagline, “The sauce has changed for a new dimension of flavor! Matsuya’s renewed ‘Bibim Bowl’ makes its grand entrance!” — lifted out with a comma inserted. The second half, “We toned down the saltiness for a milder finish,” is a shortened version, with the wording adjusted, of a line from the product description further down in the announcement: “The gentle mouthfeel of the reduced-salt soy sauce blends with the deep richness of Sichuan doubanjiang, mixing with the rice and beef. By toning down the saltiness for a milder finish, a deep umami spreads through your mouth with every bite.”

The sentence between the two, “Matsuya’s renewed ‘Bibim Bowl’ makes its grand entrance!,” along with the mentions of Sichuan doubanjiang and richness, is not included in the notification body. Within the notification’s limited character count, only the opening of the tagline and the key point of the product description have been combined.

The Title’s Notation and Emoji

The notification title, “[Beef Bibim Bowl] Renewed❗️,” encloses the product name in 【】brackets. In the Matsuya App’s past notifications, the convention has been to enclose product names in 「」 quotation marks, while 【】 brackets have been reserved for marking the category of an announcement, as in “3 Days Left” or “Apology and Correction.” Placing the product name itself inside 【】 stands out this time.

The body uses only the exclamation mark “❗️,” with no food or facial-expression emoji. Most past notifications announcing a renewal or revival have likewise been built around exclamation marks alone, without emoji. By contrast, recent notifications announcing new releases have tended to include food or facial-expression emoji in either the title or the body.

The Sauce’s Ingredients and the Products It Covers

According to the official announcement, the new Bibim sauce uses reduced-salt soy sauce and Sichuan doubanjiang, toning down the saltiness for a milder finish. The renewal covers not only the Beef Bibim Bowl but also the Extra Green Onion Spicy-Savory Green Onion & Egg Beef Bowl, which uses the same new sauce. The Beef Bibim Bowl is priced at 660 yen for the small serving, 690 yen for the regular serving, and 910 yen for the large serving, and no price change has been announced alongside this renewal.

Commemorative 50-Yen Discount Coupon Distributed Through September 8

To coincide with the renewal, a 50-yen discount coupon for the Beef Bibim Bowl is being distributed through the Matsuya App. It can be used from 10:00 AM on September 1 through 10:00 AM on September 8.

This is not the first time the Beef Bibim Bowl’s sauce has been renewed. On February 24, 2026, a renewal was likewise announced under the banner “Bibim Bowl Renewed for Even Better Flavor,” accompanied by a trial offer taking 100 yen off the Matsuben Net-exclusive Beef Bibim Bowl Bento — making this the second sauce overhaul in just half a year. The Bibim Bowl is one of Matsuya’s signature bowls, having debuted in June 2004 and gone through cycles of limited-time sales, adoption as a regular menu item, and renewals ever since; the current “Beef Bibim Bowl” was released in August 2024.

Editor's Note

The sauce has evolved again in just half a year. With this reduced-salt, mellow approach, it makes you want to compare the two versions side by side.
