Matsuya’s official X account (@matsuya_foods) posted at 6:00 PM on October 25, 2026, titled “Today, October 25, is Request Day.” The post invites readers to share in the comments what menu items they’d like to eat at Matsuya and what collaborations they’d like to see. Rather than announcing a new product or campaign, it’s a participatory post that directly solicits readers’ voices.

An Illustration of Two Characters with a Ballot Box and a Microphone

The image attached to the post shows a ballot being cast into a box bearing the Matsuya logo, alongside the text “October 25 is Request Day.” Macky holds a microphone on the right, while Yakky stands in front of the ballot box on the left, pondering with a “Hmmm…,” in a composition set up as an interview. The background is colored with green and yellow radial stripes.

The body of the post calls out to readers with concrete example answers: “Do you have any requests for Matsuya, like ‘I want to eat this kind of menu item!’ or ‘I want this kind of collaboration!’?” and “Please share your voices with us in the comments ✨.” Right after the opening mention of “Request Day,” the post adds the emoticon “( ¯꒳¯ )”—a staple of the official X account’s posts.

A Recurring Format: Posts That Open with “Today, [Month] [Day], Is…”

Posts that open with “Today, [month] [day], is [such-and-such] Day” and pose a question to readers are a format Matsuya’s official X account has used repeatedly of late. On Nice Day (July 13, 2026), it asked for ideas on menu items and campaigns readers would be happy to see; on Sweet Potato Day (October 13, 2026), it asked for readers’ favorite sweet potato dishes; and on Italian Cuisine Day (September 17, 2026), it ran a quiz format—each time soliciting answers in the comments. This “Request Day” post falls into the category of directly soliciting readers’ ideas and requests.

The word “request” itself has appeared in past posts as well. However, the Summer Song Request Drive on June 8, 2026, and the Autumn Song Request Drive on August 20, 2026, were both calls for song selections to play on the in-store broadcast radio, Oishisa Marumie Channel. This broader call for requests about menu items and collaborations readers want is a different kind of appeal in purpose from those.

A Precedent Where Reader Voices Became Products: The “Revival Menu General Election”

Matsuya has a track record of turning fan voices into actual products. The prime example is the “Matsuya Revival Menu General Election,” held for the first time in June 2018, the second in June 2020, the third in July 2023, and the fourth in June 2024. The results of the voting have borne fruit in the form of revival releases: the Shkmeruli Hot Pot Set Meal, which took first place in the third election, was released on January 30, 2024, and the Seared Tokachi Pork Bowl, which placed second in the fourth election, was released on November 14, 2024.

Beyond the general election, there are also cases where Matsuya responded to individual requests from readers. One example is the exchange in which the Ambassador of Georgia to Japan asked, “Please make Shkmeruli Ramen,” and Matsuya’s official account replied, “Certainly.” Two years and four months have passed since the fourth and most recent general election (June 2024), so the voices gathered in this comments section could someday lead to a dish on the counter.

Editor's Note

The comments section is probably already flooded with "bring that one back" requests. Can't wait to see what's in there.
