Matsuya Opens Fourth Maebashi City Store, 'Maebashi Akagi Mall Store,' Today
Matsuya, the Beef Bowl chain, opened ‘Maebashi Akagi Mall Store’ (2322) in Taguchicho, Maebashi City, Gunma Prefecture, at 10:00 a.m. on October 28, 2026. Before opening, the official site’s store list had carried a notice reading ‘*Opens 10:00 a.m. on October 28’ appended to the store’s name; today that notice was removed, and the listing switched over to its formally open state as scheduled. The store co-locates the tonkatsu specialty restaurant Matsunoya and operates 24 hours a day.
18th Store in Gunma Prefecture, Fourth in Maebashi City
With the opening of Maebashi Akagi Mall Store, Matsuya now has 18 stores in Gunma Prefecture. Within Maebashi City alone, it is the fourth store, following Maebashi Kamikoidecho Store (0624), Maebashi Motosojacho Store (0793), and Maebashi Mikawacho Store (0973).
The address is 63, Aza Takinomae, Taguchimachi, Maebashi-shi, Gunma. The new store is located in northern Maebashi City, in an area on the southern foothills side of Mt. Akagi.
Matsuya’s store network is heavily skewed by region: while Tokyo alone has 337 stores, Gunma Prefecture remains at just 18 even with this new addition. In prefectures with fewer stores, a single new opening carries proportionally more weight within the prefecture’s store network.
Opened as a Matsunoya Co-location
Maebashi Akagi Mall Store opened as a combined-location format, co-locating Matsunoya, which serves tonkatsu and set meals, within the same store. Of Matsuya’s 18 stores in Gunma Prefecture, 14 are co-located with Matsunoya, meaning the co-location format already accounts for the majority of stores in the prefecture. This new store follows the same pattern seen elsewhere in Gunma.
Matsunoya Co-located Stores Keep Opening Nationwide
The Matsunoya co-location format isn’t limited to Gunma Prefecture. Of the 21 new stores added nationwide since August 2026, 19 were co-located with Matsunoya. Most recently, Chiba Nitona Store in Chiba City opened on October 20 and Kuki Shobu Store in Kuki City, Saitama Prefecture opened on October 27, both as Matsunoya co-located stores. The opening of Maebashi Akagi Mall Store is not an isolated case, but part of this broader trend in new store openings.
For Maebashi Akagi Mall Store, about 30 days passed between the initial listing — which carried the scheduled opening date appended to the store name — and today’s opening. Compared to other new stores that opened around the same time, which typically went from announcement to opening in about two to three weeks, the lead time here was somewhat longer.
Editor's Note
That brings Matsuya's Maebashi store count to four. Since it's open 24 hours, now you can get a hot bowl of Beef Bowl even late at night when the Akagi-oroshi (the cold wind blowing down from Mt. Akagi) is blowing.
