Matsuya Raises 'Beef Curry w/ Hamburg Steak Lunch Set' by 60 Yen to 1,000 Yen

A Matsuya investigation has found that the menu pages for two lunch sets featuring Beef Curry & Rice, the ‘Beef Curry w/ Simmered Beef Lunch Set’ and the ‘Beef Curry w/ Hamburg Steak Lunch Set,’ were updated on October 28. The Hamburg Steak version rose 60 yen, from 940 yen to 1,000 yen, while the Karegyu version held its price at 1,000 yen but had its nutritional information display rewritten. As a result, both items are now priced at 1,000 yen, standing together as the most expensive items among Matsuya’s curry lunch sets.

The Hamburg Steak Version Rises 60 Yen to 1,000 Yen

Since its debut on June 2 at 1,040 yen, the ‘Beef Curry w/ Hamburg Steak Lunch Set’ had dropped to 940 yen on the official website, but this time it was raised by 60 yen to 1,000 yen. Along with the price increase, the nutritional information display has also been updated.

The curry-only item, ‘Beef Curry w/ Hamburg Steak,’ was raised from 890 yen to 950 yen on October 13, bringing it to 950 yen. Until now, the lunch set (940 yen) had been 10 yen cheaper than the curry-only item (950 yen), a reversal of the usual pricing relationship. With this latest increase, the relationship has returned to the normal pattern, with the lunch set now 50 yen more expensive than the curry-only item.

The Karegyu Version Holds Its Price While Nutritional Values Change

The ‘Beef Curry w/ Simmered Beef Lunch Set’ remains unchanged at 1,000 yen, with only the nutritional information display being rewritten. Calories dropped 12 kcal, from 1,003 kcal to 991 kcal, while protein rose from 25.6g to 27.1g.

The Karegyu version launched in May at 1,100 yen, dropped to 1,000 yen on the official website at the end of July, and has maintained that 1,000 yen price through this latest update as well. The curry-only item, ‘Beef Curry w/ Simmered Beef,’ is priced at 950 yen, putting it in the same relationship as the Hamburg Steak version: the lunch set costs 50 yen more than the curry-only item.

Two Items Now Line Up at 1,000 Yen, While the Plain and Cheese Versions Hold Steady

With this update, the Karegyu and Hamburg Steak versions now stand together at the top of the curry lunch set lineup, both priced at 1,000 yen. Meanwhile, the plain and cheese versions of the same Beef Curry & Rice lunch set have seen no change in price or nutritional information, remaining at 730 yen and 930 yen respectively.

The Widely Deployed ‘Beef Curry & Rice’

Menu items bearing the ‘Beef Curry & Rice’ name are offered widely across Matsuya. The target list for the Matsuya App-only ‘Curry Bento Point Boost Campaign,’ announced on October 5, includes ‘Beef Curry & Rice,’ ‘Beef Curry w/ Cheese,’ ‘Beef Curry w/ Simmered Beef,’ and ‘Beef Curry w/ Hamburg Steak,’ among others. ‘Beef Curry & Rice’ is also offered in the takeout prepared-foods series ‘MATSUYA DELI,’ where it was included in the 70-yen-off blanket price cut announced on October 21 (this is a separate product format from the dine-in lunch sets).
