Matsuya Discontinues Store-Limited 'Seared Rib Finger Bowl' Just 7 Days After Launch

Matsuya’s store-limited menu item, the ‘Seared Rib Finger Bowl’, disappeared from the store-limited page on Matsuya’s official website on September 1, 2026, and is now discontinued. It was on sale for only seven days after its launch at 10:00 on August 25. In the same update to the store-limited page, the takeout product ‘MATSUYA Deli’ was also removed alongside the Seared Rib Finger Bowl, while the ‘Grilled Eel Bowl’, which launched at the same time, remains listed.

A 1,280 Yen Bowl Made with the Rare Rib Finger Cut

The ‘Seared Rib Finger Bowl’ is a bowl made with “Rib Finger”, a rare cut taken from between a cow’s ribs, and was sold for 1,280 yen with miso soup included. The product poster on the official website showed fragrantly seared boneless short rib served over rice with kimchi and chopped nori, along with the tagline “Superb umami, created by a fragrant sear.” Rib Finger is described as “rich in the compounds that come out of the bone, with a deep umami flavor and a juicy texture.”

On the launch day, August 25, Matsuya’s official X account posted about actually eating the bowl, saying, “Today we tried the test-sale ‘Seared Rib Finger Bowl’” and “The extremely chewy Rib Finger pairs perfectly with the umami of the kimchi and sauce.” The post also showed a way of eating it as a ‘Two-Kind Boneless Short Rib Bowl’, by ordering a Small Serving Boneless Short Rib separately at the store and layering it on top.

Discontinued After 7 Days, a Short Run That Is Not Unusual for Store-Limited Items

With a launch on August 25 and a delisting on September 1, the bowl was on shelves for about seven days. While some store-limited items run for hundreds of days, a certain number occupy short slots that rotate out in about a week, and the Seared Rib Finger Bowl falls into this short-run type.

Recent examples keep the pattern going: the ‘Hot Water-Seared and Soy-Marinated Tuna Bowl’ and the ‘100% Beef Hamburg Steak Set Meal’ (launched July 21, delisted July 27, six days), the ‘Black Mapo Tofu Set Meal’ (launched June 30, ended July 6, six days), and ‘Hiyajiru’ (launched May 5, ended May 11, six days) all dropped off the store-limited page six to seven days after launch. On the other hand, some items, such as the ‘Iburigakko Beef Bowl’, stayed listed for more than 400 days, so how long a store-limited item stays listed varies widely from product to product.

The Last Sales Were at 70 Stores in 27 Prefectures

At the time of delisting, the Seared Rib Finger Bowl was sold at 70 stores across 27 prefectures nationwide. The stores ranged from Matsuya Obihiro Shirakaba-dori Store (2180) in Hokkaido in the north to Matsuya Aira Kajiki Store (1992) in Kagoshima Prefecture in the south, but they made up only a limited share of Matsuya’s stores nationwide, and the distribution was heavily skewed by prefecture.

By prefecture, Tokyo had the most with 15 stores, followed by Chiba Prefecture with 9, Osaka Prefecture with 6, Kanagawa Prefecture with 6, Aichi Prefecture with 4, and Gunma Prefecture with 3. Even among prefectures with similar store counts, the gaps were large: Chiba Prefecture had 9 stores, while neighboring Saitama Prefecture had only 2. Prefectures such as Mie, Miyagi, Okayama, Okinawa, Kumamoto, and Aomori had no participating stores at all.

The Same-Day ‘Grilled Eel Bowl’ Stays Listed, While a New Takeout Series Goes Nationwide

The ‘Seared Rib Finger Bowl’ launched on August 25, the same day as the store-limited ‘Grilled Eel Bowl’ (736 stores nationwide). The Grilled Eel Bowl was still listed on the store-limited page as of September 1, so of the two items launched that day, only the Seared Rib Finger Bowl has ended its listing.

Also on September 1, at the same time the Seared Rib Finger Bowl was discontinued, the takeout product ‘MATSUYA Deli’ was removed from the store-limited page. Matsuya’s official website announced that from 10:00 the same day, a new takeout series, ‘MATSUYA DELI’, featuring items such as ‘Beef Plate DELI’, would go on sale nationwide, with a ‘Trial Fair’ running from September 1 to September 15. In addition, a renewal of the sauce for the ‘Beef Bibimbap Bowl’ also took effect at 10:00 the same day, making the first Tuesday of September a day of overlapping menu changes.
