Matsuya Discontinues Store-Limited 'Seared Rib Finger Bowl' Just 7 Days After Launch

Matsuya’s store-limited menu item ‘Seared Rib Finger Bowl’ has disappeared from the store-limited page on Matsuya’s official website as of September 1, 2026, ending its availability. It was on sale for just seven days, having launched at 10:00 a.m. on August 25. In the same-day update to the store-limited page, the takeout item ‘MATSUYA Deli’ was also delisted alongside the Seared Rib Finger Bowl, while the ‘Grilled Eel Bowl,’ which launched on the same day, remains listed.

A 1,280 Yen Bowl Made with the Rare Cut Rib Finger

The ‘Seared Rib Finger Bowl’ used rib finger, a rare cut found between the beef ribs, and was sold for 1,280 yen with miso soup included. The official website’s product poster showed the dish plated with fragrantly seared boneless short rib served over white rice with kimchi and shredded nori, accompanied by the tagline ‘The ultimate umami, born from a fragrant sear.’ Rib finger was described as ‘richly infused with compounds released from the bone, giving it a deep umami flavor and juicy texture.’

On the launch day of August 25, Matsuya’s official X account posted about actually eating the bowl, writing, ‘Today we tried the test-sale item, the Seared Rib Finger Bowl’ and ‘The satisfyingly chewy rib finger pairs perfectly with the umami of the kimchi and sauce.’ The post also introduced a way to enjoy it as a ‘Two-Kind Boneless Short Rib Bowl’ by separately ordering the Small Serving Boneless Short Rib available in stores and layering it on top.

Discontinued After Just 7 Days — Not Unusual for Store-Limited Items

Having launched on August 25 and been delisted on September 1, the item was on store shelves for roughly seven days. While some store-limited menu items remain listed for hundreds of days, a certain number are also short-lived, cycling out after about a week, and the Seared Rib Finger Bowl falls into this short-lived category.

Recently, too, there have been a string of items that left the store-limited page just six to seven days after launch — the ‘Hot Water-Seared and Soy-Marinated Tuna Bowl’ and ‘100% Beef Hamburg Steak Set Meal,’ which launched July 21 and were delisted July 27 (6 days); the ‘Black Mapo Tofu Set Meal,’ which launched June 30 and ended July 6 (6 days); and ‘Hiyajiru,’ which launched May 5 and ended May 11 (6 days). On the other hand, some items, like ‘Iburigakko Beef Bowl,’ have remained listed for over 400 days, showing that the length of time a store-limited item stays listed varies widely by product.

Last Available at 70 Stores Across 27 Prefectures

At the time it was delisted, the ‘Seared Rib Finger Bowl’ was available at 70 stores across 27 prefectures nationwide. Coverage stretched from Matsuya Obihiro Shirakaba-dori Store (2180) in Hokkaido in the north to Matsuya Aira Kajiki Store (1992) in Kagoshima Prefecture in the south, but the share relative to all operating stores nationwide was limited, and the distribution varied greatly by prefecture.

By prefecture, Tokyo had the most with 15 stores, followed by Chiba Prefecture with 9, Osaka Prefecture with 6, Kanagawa Prefecture with 6, Aichi Prefecture with 4, and Gunma Prefecture with 3. Even between prefectures with similar store counts, the gap could be large: Chiba Prefecture had 9 stores, while neighboring Saitama Prefecture had only 2. Some prefectures, including Mie, Miyagi, Okayama, Okinawa, Kumamoto, and Aomori, had no eligible stores at all.

Same-Day Launch ‘Grilled Eel Bowl’ Remains Listed, New Takeout Series Goes Nationwide

The ‘Seared Rib Finger Bowl’ launched on August 25, the same day as the store-limited ‘Grilled Eel Bowl’ (736 stores nationwide). Of the two, the ‘Grilled Eel Bowl’ remains listed on the store-limited page as of September 1, and of the two items launched on the same day, only the Seared Rib Finger Bowl has been delisted.

September 1 also saw the takeout item ‘MATSUYA Deli’ delisted from the store-limited page at the same time as the Seared Rib Finger Bowl was discontinued. Matsuya’s official website announced that, starting at 10:00 a.m. the same day, the new takeout series ‘MATSUYA DELI,’ featuring items such as ‘Simmered Beef & Onion DELI,’ would go on sale nationwide, with a ‘Trial Fair’ running from September 1 through September 15. In addition, a renewal of the sauce for the ‘Beef Bibim Bowl’ also took effect at 10:00 a.m. the same day, making the first Tuesday of September a moment when multiple menu changes overlapped.
