Matsuya's Official X Account Visits Musashimurayama Store on the Night of Its "Replacement Opening"

Matsuya’s official X account (@matsuya_foods) reported visiting “Matsuya Musashimurayama Store,” which reopened as a rebuilt Matsunoya co-located store, at 9:50 PM on September 1. The old store closed that same morning, and the new store, located about 145 meters away, had only just reopened that day as a Matsunoya co-located store. The official account wrote, “We went to check it out right away,” reporting that it visited on the very night of the opening.

The post includes a photo of the store at night. Illuminated signs reading “Matsuya” and “Tonkatsu Matsunoya” stand side by side on the black-toned exterior wall, with a yellow line of lighting running along the eaves. Two flower stands celebrating the opening are placed by the entrance, and several red banners dyed with the word “Open” flutter in the wind. The glass storefront displays a menu board and notices for special campaigns, and a lit “MATSUYA” sign glows atop the roof. Traffic cones and barricades that suggest recent construction work still remain on the sidewalk side, giving the store the look of a roadside-type Matsuya/Matsunoya co-located outlet.

In the post, the official account described this opening as a “replacement opening.” The phrase “Matsunoya co-located store” is a term this account has used repeatedly, having also written “Matsuya/Matsunoya co-located store” in its August 24 post about the Koka Minakuchi Store (Shiga Prefecture). On the other hand, “replacement opening,” which refers to the rebuilding and replacement of an existing store, is an expression that hadn’t appeared in the official account’s previous posts. The post closes with “We went to check it out right away (╹◡╹),” a phrasing that follows the same pattern as the account’s regular language, matching “We tried it right away (╹◡╹)” from its August 25 post about eating a new menu item. It ends with a folded-hands emoji 🤲, inviting both longtime customers of the old store and new customers to visit.

The Old Store Closed That Same Morning, Reopening About 145 Meters Away (Previously Reported)

Details of the Musashimurayama Store’s rebuild and relocation were covered in an article published earlier that same morning. The old “Matsuya Musashimurayama Store” (0060, 3-37-2 Gakuen, Musashimurayama City, Tokyo) closed that morning as scheduled, per the earlier notice of a “9:00 AM closing on September 1,” and in its place the new store (2319, 4-112-1 Shinmei, Musashimurayama City) opened the same day at 10:00 AM as a Matsunoya co-located store. The old store and the new store are about 145 meters apart. While the store name is the same, the address is different — this is not a renewal at the same location but a rebuild involving relocation to a nearby site.

This relocation had also been reported about a month earlier, on August 4, as an advance notice of the closing and opening. At the time of that notice, the distance was estimated at about 150 meters, but the detailed report following the opening confirmed it at about 145 meters.

“Matsunoya Co-Location” Progressing at Stores Nationwide in August and September

The switch to Matsunoya co-location isn’t limited to the Musashimurayama Store. On August 8, the Ichinomiya Onishi Store similarly opened as a Matsunoya co-located store, and schedules have been announced for multiple other stores from September onward. Matsuya’s official store locator page lists advance notices of a “10:00 AM opening on September 4” for the Seki Store, a “10:00 AM opening on September 18” for the Okinawa Hiyane Store, and a “10:00 AM opening on September 30” for the Sayama-dai Store (Saitama Prefecture). Some stores are switching to co-located format through renovation: it has been reported that the Hongo 3-chome Store will become Matsunoya co-located after reopening from renovation on September 4, and that the Kitano Store’s closure since August 26 is for renovation toward Matsunoya co-location. The move to combine Tonkatsu Matsunoya into the same building is progressing in parallel at locations nationwide from this summer into autumn.
