On October 28, Matsuya posted on its official X account (@matsuya_foods): “Shimanto Pork Stir-fried with Ginger Soy Sauce has arrived at Matsuya PREMIUM in Ginza! (╹◡╹)”, quote-reposting the launch announcement that the Matsuya PREMIUM official account (@matsuya_premium) had posted at 11 AM the same day. The price is 1,451 yen (tax included), and it’s available at Matsuya PREMIUM Ginza. Shimanto Pork is a branded pork that Matsuya has never used in its products before.

The Main Account Quoted PREMIUM’s Official Launch Announcement

Matsuya’s official post took the form of a quote comment on Matsuya PREMIUM’s announcement post. The line the main account added was “Shimanto Pork Stir-fried with Ginger Soy Sauce has arrived at Matsuya PREMIUM in Ginza! (╹◡╹)”, and the emoticon “(╹◡╹)” at the end is one that has been reused repeatedly in past quote-comment posts introducing new PREMIUM items.

The quoted Matsuya PREMIUM announcement opens with “[On Sale Today at 11 AM] ‘Shimanto Pork Stir-fried with Ginger Soy Sauce’ Has Arrived!” and promotes the flavor with lines like “The juicy sweetness of Shimanto Pork paired with the sharp kick of Kochi Prefecture-grown Ogon Ginger” and “A PREMIUM-exclusive delicacy where the umami of the meat fills your mouth!” The product name “Shimanto Pork” and the ingredient “Ogon Ginger” also appeared in the official announcement on October 22, but flavor descriptions such as “juicy sweetness” and “sharp kick” don’t appear in that announcement’s text, suggesting they were written specifically for X.

The Launch Visual: “A Melting Sweetness, Raised by the Shimanto”

The launch visual accompanying the post uses a pale beige background framed by reddish-brown decorative borders. In the upper right is a banner reading “Made with Kochi Prefecture-grown Ogon Ginger” alongside an illustration of ginger, while the upper left features a watercolor painting of a river and mountains. Large brush-style lettering reads “A melting sweetness, raised by the Shimanto.” A gold-rimmed container holds rice, Stir-fried Pork with Ginger Soy Sauce mixed with onion, and a side dish, with “Shimanto Pork Stir-fried with Ginger Soy Sauce, 1,451 yen” noted below. Captions at the bottom of the image add “Kochi Prefecture-grown Ogon Ginger is used in the julienned ginger garnish” and “Image is for illustrative purposes only.”

The dish goes on sale from 11 AM on October 28 at Matsuya PREMIUM Ginza. The price and launch date/time had already been announced in the official notice on October 22; today’s X post marks the announcement on the actual launch day itself.

After a Run of Kobe Beef, a Dish That Puts Pork in the Lead

Matsuya PREMIUM Ginza opened on June 10, 2026, as the department store’s first permanent location, marking Matsuya’s 60th founding anniversary. Since beginning prepared food sales on August 1, it has rolled out new items at a pace of roughly one or two per month.

Launch Date Item
Aug 19 Duo Pork with Kujo Green Onion in Salt Sauce Box / Kobe Beef Bowl topped with Green Onion and Soft Boiled Egg
Sep 2 Kobe Beef Bowl topped with Grated Radish & Ponzu Citrus Soy Sauce
Sep 9 Kobe Beef Bibimbap Bowl
Sep 25 Kobe Beef Kimchi Kalbi Box
Oct 28 Shimanto Pork Stir-fried with Ginger Soy Sauce

Since entering September, three consecutive items had carried the Kobe Beef name. This time’s Shimanto Pork Stir-fried with Ginger Soy Sauce puts pork alone in the lead role instead of Kobe Beef, making it an unusual lineup choice for PREMIUM Ginza. It has been 33 days since the previous item, the Kobe Beef Kimchi Kalbi Box (Sep 25) — the longest gap between new items since prepared food sales began.

An Upgraded Take on the Classic “Stir-fried Pork with Ginger Soy Sauce,” Revived in July

Stir-fried Pork with Ginger Soy Sauce has long been part of Matsuya’s lineup, with the launch of a Stir-fried Pork with Ginger Soy Sauce Bowl announced back in April 2013. It later dropped off the regular menu, but on July 6, 2026, the Stir-fried Pork with Ginger Soy Sauce Set Meal returned as what was billed as a “comeback to the regular menu at last.” While the regular menu’s Stir-fried Pork with Ginger Soy Sauce Set Meal (850 yen) uses pork loin, this PREMIUM version is an upgraded take made with the branded Shimanto Pork and Kochi Prefecture-grown Ogon Ginger, arriving roughly three and a half months after the classic’s comeback.

Editor's Note

After a string of Kobe Beef dishes, PREMIUM finally brings in a branded pork. I'm curious how far this 850-yen classic can be elevated.
